"We are going to do all we can to qualify for the finals in Poland," said Vítězslav Lavička, having taken charge of the Czech Republic side as they bid to reach the 2017 UEFA European Under-21 Championship finals.
The 52-year-old has replaced Jakub Dovalil, who stepped down in June at the end of the Czechs' 2015 finals campaign, in which they were hosts. Lavička previously coached the U21 squad in 2007 and 2008, but is more famous for having won seven league titles as an AC Sparta Praha player, and two more as a a coach: one with Sparta and one with FC Slovan Liberec.
"I really appreciate this opportunity and would like to thank our association for the faith shown in me," said the former midfielder. "I have been in charge of the U21 team in the past, so I am well aware of the challenge I have accepted. It is a different kind of work to what you do at club level, but I want to devote all my experience to the U21s."
