Georgia's slim hopes of UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualification have all but vanished after being held by Luxembourg, the visitors' first point in Group 3.
Luxembourg, on a run of 16 straight U21 qualifying losses since a 1-0 win in Bosnia and Herzegovina in September 2009, had hope of victory when Jeff Lascak put them ahead on 13 minutes from Dejvid Sinani's long pass. Georgia equalised six minutes before half-time, Archil Tvildiani's cross being turned in by Jambul Jigauri, but the midfielder was denied another goal late on by Joé Frising's save.
With one qualifier to go, Georgia are in third position, two points behind the Netherlands – whom they visit on 4 September – having played three more games. Luxembourg travel to the Netherlands on 3 June before ending their campaign on 8 September against Scotland.
