Denmark won 2-0 in Russia to leapfrog their opponents at the UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying Group 2 summit.
A cagey first half produced no goals but the visitors came out firing after the resumption and scored twice in four minutes to go one point clear at the top of the section. Four minutes into the second half Jens Jønsson broke the deadlock before Nicolai Brock-Madsen doubled the advantage.
With both sides unbeaten in qualifying until today, something had to give in Khimki but it was not until the second period that the contest came to life. In his first competitive start at this level, Jønsson showed great composure to find the net in the 49th minute.
Brock-Madsen then notched his third goal in five qualifying outings to maintain Denmark's excellent start to the campaign. Next up for Denmark is a trip to Bulgaria on 15 November, when Russia travel to Slovenia.
