Sweden recover to prevail against Poland

Sweden recovered from an early setback to post a comeback win against Poland, making an ideal start to life in Group 7 and ending their opponents' winning streak.

The Blågult swept through 2013 qualifying, accruing a points tally bettered only by Germany, before elimination at the play-off stage. They started their opening 2015 qualifier in awkward fashion, however, Alexander Milošević scoring an own goal after ten minutes. The hosts rallied with two fine goals inside the next 11 minutes before Mikael Ishak (56) completed the scoring.

Poland showed attacking menace from the outset and Marcin Dorna's side forced the opener. Kacper Przybyłko connected with Rafał Wolski's free-kick; the ball diverted off defender Alexander Milošević past Patrik Carlgren.

The lead did not last long. Simon Thern drilled a shot into the top corner five minutes later, before an outstanding 50-metre run from Branimir Hrgota ended with a clinical finish on 21 minutes. On the stroke of half-time Ishak hit a post from close range, but shortly after the restart the No11 was on hand to tap in the rebound after a Hrgota shot had been saved.

Poland regained control in the final half hour but were unable to create any meaningful openings, and could be joined on six points at the top of the section should there be a victor from Sweden's game in Turkey on Tuesday.
