Semi-finalists in Israel three months ago, the Netherlands started out on the road to the Czech Republic with an emphatic victory against Scotland in UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying Group 3.
Tonny Trindade de Vilhena, a member of the Jong Oranje squad that reached the last four in June, gave the hosts a 52nd-minute lead in Albert Stuivenberg's first competitive game since succeeding Cor Pot.
The outcome might have been different, however, had Scotland captain Stuart Armstrong beaten goalkeeper Warner Hahn in a one-on-one situation before the Feyenoord player struck.
From then on the home side took control, with Chelsea FC's Marco van Ginkel inspirational as the Dutch – beaten 2-1 at home by Scotland in the last qualifying campaign – scored three times in nine minutes through Luc Castaignos, Mike van der Hoorn and substitute Jesper Drost.
