It's always very hard to win. We were very happy two years ago and we are very happy now, not only with the win but also with the performance and the personality we showed. We are very proud of this. We think the most important thing is the players' belief in the team. They have quality but if they don't believe in the team it's very difficult. It's more important that they work hard, stay strong and have belief in the team. Each player has his own personality but they're all united as one team in order to win the title.
When you win you need to celebrate. We have had a very hard tournament so we are delighted with the win, with the performance and with the personality. Today was a very hard match for us so we are pleased. We need to celebrate now because the future is for tomorrow.
We have one style and we believe in this style, we work on this style. We have good players who believe in this system, but we know it's not perfect – in football nothing is perfect – so we keep working and trying to improve. But we have good players ... if you don't have good players, it's impossible.
When we have a penalty, [Isco and Thiago Alcántara] are the two options we have and they have the freedom to make the decision. Football on the pitch is about the players. All of the team are thinking about [the injured Sergio] Canales and this triumph is also for him.
Devis Mangia, Italy coach
I am really proud to be coach of this team. Until the final second my team tried to win the match. Yesterday I tried to play down this game but I knew the tension was increasing and this is not positive. I believed before the match that I could manage it. I think my players' only mistake – not a fault of theirs – was their lack of experience. In matches like this you need experience and they lacked the experience of the Spanish players.
I'm very proud to have coached this team and I wish to thank the Italian Football Federation for giving me the opportunity to work with this squad. What can I say? I'm proud of this team and we love each other.
During the game, wherever I looked there were good players all around me. I wish to congratulate the Spanish FA, Julen and his team for the excellent job they have done. We expected such a game against Spain. We prepared correctly for this but, as usual, some details make the difference. There were two or three situations which changed the outcome of the game.
Maybe in another match we would do better, though I know to do what we did with this team would be very difficult because we have achieved excellent things. We just need two or three days to reflect on this and then draw the right conclusions.
