Italy defender Marco Capuano set his sights on going all the way and winning a sixth UEFA European Under-21 Championship for the Azzurrini after the 1-1 draw with Norway which secured first place in Group A.
Andrea Bertolacci, the man who stepped off the bench to equalise in added time, added that Italy only had to believe in their own qualities and "not fear anyone" as he eyed a semi-final against the Netherlands or Spain.
Marco Capuano, Italy defender
I think it was an even game. It would have been a shame to lose it in the last minute but fortunately we got the equaliser at the end and we're happy. For us, it was very important [to finish top] – we wanted to finish first and stay unbeaten. We're pleased and now we start preparing for the semi-final. They're both great teams [Spain and the Netherlands] and Spain are the defending champions. Whoever we meet we'll give it everything and try to win this championship.
We hope [to go all the way]. They'll definitely be great semi-finals, really even-looking, as all the teams are strong. We'll start focusing now and whether it's Spain or Holland we'll be going out there to win.
Andrea Bertolacci, Italy midfielder
The most important thing is we managed to equalise because we didn't deserve to lose. We had clear opportunities to score and we weren't precise enough at certain moments but we kept going to the end knowing that we could get the goal.
Today we made life difficult for a really good team – [Norway] play well, they go forward and are determined. They can go far also. But if we play in our style, with the ball on the ground and really going for it, we need not fear anyone. We have to think about our own game, and show no fear. We'll play against whichever opponent knowing our own qualities. And with the determination and hunger we showed today we can achieve our goal.
Spain and Holland will know they could be facing a great team. We know we've got to play one of them but that's what we need to do to achieve our goal.
