It is a fantastic result – we are very proud of how we played. I'm very satisfied with our quality and very proud of my players. I can't feel unlucky [to go out] because Norway scored after 91 minutes against us. If we'd beaten Norway we would be in the semi-finals, but we are not disappointed. We all know our level and I'm very proud of my players.
England are a national team with a lot of quality players and a lot of talent. But Israel were united and organised and because of that they couldn't beat us. England are a great team and it's a great honour for us to beat them in this tournament. It's fantastic for the atmosphere of our country and we are very proud of it.
It's been a fantastic period for me and I've learned a lot. I am very sad to leave my country [to take over at R. Standard de Liège], to leave my national team and my players – I love them a lot. It's very hard for me. It was fantastic for me to finish my term with the national team here in Jerusalem and to win in front of these fans. I'm leaving a very good foundation for the years to come. I believe that we have a very good future.
Stuart Pearce, England manager
If you don't turn up and work hard enough, you won't get any success. The basics – holding possession, passing, movement. We've not performed at this tournament, we've been really poor. Hopefully the players will reflect on their performances at this tournament. It's a real disappointment for me and everyone connected with England.
It's an excuseless environment. I think tonight maybe the players should take some responsibility. It was a real poor performance. Credit to Israel – they deserved to beat us. We've got players who haven't performed. I think Andre Wisdom has led by example and that's why he was made captain. I think he should be captain for the next two years.
I'm 100% disappointed with our showing and I've got 23 players in the dressing room who are as disappointed as I am as they haven't really played to their potential. I have to take it on the chin and obviously the players do as well. We got what we deserved. Our team's the only one that's been here four times running and we've lost very few games in tournament football. We've played very good football in there so there's some middle ground somewhere.
