Adrion seeks silver lining for Germany

Germany may already be eliminated but coach Rainer Adrion says there will be no danger of his side lacking motivation as they take on Russia in their final Group B fixture in Netanya. "We're determined to leave this tournament with a victory," he said. Meanwhile, opposite number Nikolai Pisarev has called on his players to seize the chance to improve a poor record against Germany in front of what the coach expects to be a bumper television audience in Russia.

Obviously we'll make some changes tomorrow, but we won't field players just for the sake of it. It's an important match. We don't play Germany often and we want to improve a slightly negative statistic. We'll prepare for this match as if there was something riding on it. We'll decide on the starting lineup after the final training session as always.

I'm thankful to the players who have prepared seriously and showed a great attitude. Given time, things will settle down so we can analyse our performances and the mistakes we made. It is an important experience. Maybe some of the players will examine their attitude towards the game and the ways they need to improve. Playing here is like a litmus test where you can test yourself at a high level. We're glad we're here.

12 June is a national holiday in Russia. People will go to their summer houses and watch TV. It's probably a great motivation for our guys. The whole country will be watching them.

Pisarev reported a clean bill of health in the Russia squad, meaning the only player missing for this final Group B outing is defender Chicherin, suspended after his sending-off against the Dutch.

We have studied Russia in detail, so we're aware they have a lot of fast players and are capable of causing problems in attack. We need to be fully focused and each player needs to do his job. The objective for us is to step up our game and hopefully this will get us a victory before we go home.

There will be a few changes, but don't expect a complete rotation. We'll put ourselves under pressure and go into this match fully motivated. We're determined to leave this tournament with a win. I can feel that all the players are doing everything in their power so that we beat Russia. There won't be anyone going into the game with a lacklustre attitude.

Obviously we all expected more from this tournament. When it's over, we can analyse to what extent the players were able to bring their qualities to the pitch. In a few situations – some of them decisive – we made mistakes. Now it's up to us to put every effort into the game against Russia.

Christoph Moritz will not play because of flu, while Sead Kolasinac has been struggling with a knee problem and will most likely miss out as well. Pierre-Michelle Lasogga is banned after two yellow cards and Adrion also does without Peniel Mlapa, who suffered a hamstring injury against the Netherlands in Germany's opening fixture.
