We won and we did it the German way. It was interesting to see the Dutch players fighting until the last minute for a good result – 2-0 had become 2-2, but we still created a lot of chances and in the end I think we deserved to win.
I think that the group is very happy and it is not one group of 11 players winning, we win with all 23 and the staff. You can see everyone was happy for each other with each goal, especially the last one, and that's why everyone was hugging and kissing each other and it was nice to see.
We gave it away because of the penalty in the first minute of the second half. We didn't play football after that – we didn't keep the ball and create chances. They were the better team and deserved to score their equaliser when they did but after they scored, as we did, they took a step back and that is the one of the reasons why we won it in the end. I expected a lot Dutch support. It's nice for a small country like us, that they come to support.
Rainer Adrion, Germany coach
Netherlands were the better team in the first half. We didn't have a good start to the game. After half-time we came back, we fought our way into the match and we had some very good attacking situations, we were very good, succeeded in scoring the first goal, then the second goal and I have to pay a big compliment to my team for that.
The Netherlands are technically very strong and it is very sad for us that we lost the match, but we have to see the positives in the team, that we have character and we'll need that in the next two games.
We want to play like we did in the second half over the next two games and hope we will have a better result next time. We can't play again like we did in the first half, we need to find our game earlier. We said at half-time that we need to show our true face and in the second half we did this much better.
