Rui Fonte struck twice as Portugal moved back to the top of UEFA European Under-21 Championship Group 6 with a 3-1 victory over Albania.
The hosts made a blistering start in Marinha Grande, Salvador Agra breaking the deadlock inside two minutes and Fonte soon doubling the advantage with a spectacular half-volley. Bekim Bala pulled one back before the quarter-hour mark and the game, so fast and furious, suddenly went into a lull.
Portugal picked up the pace after the restart, and RCD Espanyol forward Fonte restored the two goal lead after a fine run from Agra. It sealed victory, though only after Mergim Brahimi rattled the crossbar with a free-kick, and leaves Portugal two points clear of Russia in Group 6, albeit having played two games more.
