Romania found their scoring touch late on as they cruised to a 2-0 UEFA European Under-21 Championship victory against nine-man Slovakia in Group 9.
Both sides had their chances in the first half, with the visitors keen to avenge a 2-0 home defeat when the teams last met, but Romania captain Mihai Răduţ seized the chance to put his side in front from the penalty spot on 66 minutes after Lukáš Štetina fouled the lively Adrian Stoian in the box. Lucian Filip fired in a second late on from a free-kick, in between the dismissals of Slovakia’s Ján Greguš and Jakub Paur.
Greguš and Štetina each had shots on goal in the first half, when the home midfield duo of Răduț and Stoian, in particular, kept the Slovakia defenders on their toes. Following the penalty, Slovakia captain Greguš saw red for a second bookable offence, and following Filip's goal, Paur's dismissal capped off a disappointing night for the visitors.
