Elliott Hewitt and substitute Elliott Chamberlain came close to snatching all three points for Wales as their UEFA European Under-21 Championship Group 3 game against Armenia ended in stalemate.
Substitute Chamberlain danced through two defenders but failed to find the target from five metres on 74 minutes and, not long afterwards, defender Hewitt latched on to a right-wing cross from Thomas Bradshaw but saw his shot saved by Armenia goalkeeper Arsen Petrosyan. The result was probably the right one, though, with the two sides looking evenly matched in Yerevan.
Jake Taylor had the best chance of the first half, failing to score despite getting a firm head to a 36th-minute corner. At the other end, Artak Aleksanyan crossed for Hovhannes Hovhannisyan ten minutes after the break, but his shot was charged down. Aleksanayan later delivered an inviting pass for Edgar Malakyan but his team-mate could not supply the finishing touch.
