The Faroe Islands ended with ten men in a 1-0 defeat by Moldova to complete their UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying campaign on a low note.
William McLoud Jacobsen's side had already recorded three victories before Saturday's game in Chisinau but, like their hosts, were already out of contention to claim one of the top two spots in Group 1.
They did, however, look set to earn a draw before Artur Ioniţă headed in Iuri Bondarciuc's precise pass ten minutes from time to give Moldova three points which take them above Latvia, who they face on Tuesday, and into third in the section. The Faroes' day took another turn for the worse just four minutes later when Finnur Justinussen was dismissed for a second bookable offence.
