For the second time in four days, Switzerland failed to take the chance to become the first team to seal a spot in the UEFA European Under-21 Championship play-offs as they were held to a goalless draw in Georgia.
Switzerland only needed a home point against Turkey on Wednesday to top Group 2 but were beaten 2-0, meaning victory was required at the Boris Paichadze National Stadium in Tbilisi to secure progress. That rarely looked like happening, with Georgia instead having the clearer opportunities in a game in which chances were primarily of the half variety.
Nevertheless, the Swiss lead Turkey by four points having played a game more, and will still control their own destiny when their qualifying campaign concludes at home against the Republic of Ireland on 3 September.
