Lithuania celebrated their first victory in 2011 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying Group 9 as Eivinas Zagurskas's early strike lifted them above bottom side FYR Macedonia.
Few chances
In a game of few real chances in Kaunas, the home side took advantage of their first opening to seize all three points. With the match only five minutes old, Zagurskas found the back of the net with an excellent shot which visiting goalkeeper Marko Jovanovski tried in vain to keep out. FYR Macedonia gradually recovered from that setback and began to test Vytautas Černiauskas in the home goal, though Arvydas Novikovas was guilty of firing over in a good position at the other end.
Urdinov chance
The visitors then looked poised to level eight minutes before half-time, only for Yani Urdinov to fail to control the ball, allowing Černiauskas to gather. They failed to trouble Vitalijus Stankevicius's side in the second period and now find themselves rooted to the bottom of the section on two points, eleven behind section leaders Greece having played one game more. Lithuania have four points, three less than second-placed England, who boast two games in hand.
