Home mistakes
Pavlo Iakovenko's Ukraine capitalised on two defensive errors. Mykola Morozyuk was the first to profit in the 34th minute, pouncing on a weak Jan Oblak clearance before finishing from an acute angle. Goalkeeper Oblak could again be held accountable for Ukraine's second as he managed to carry Yegor Lugachev's free-kick over his line a minute before half-time. Slovenia, who came closest to scoring when Rene Mihelič's free-kick struck the bar in the second minute, enjoyed a better second half but hopes of a comeback were quashed by the 68th-minute dismissal of Armin Bačinovič. Tomaž Kavčič's men remain second from bottom in the group, five points adrift of the pacesetters after four games.
