Moldova took the lead in Torshavn, but were grateful to cling on for a point after being reduced to ten men in their UEFA European Under-21 Championship Group 1 qualifier against the Faroe Islands.
Level terms
The visitors made the breakthrough midway through an even first half, Alexandr Pascenco getting to the by-line to deliver a low cross for Eugen Sidorenco to force in on 24 minutes. However the Faroe Islands were back on level terms 12 minutes later, with Christian Mouritsen's through-ball finding Kristoffur Jakobsen, who slid coolly past goalkeeper Anatol Chirinciuc.
Winning position
The hosts looked slightly the stronger side after the break and seemed to have been handed a winning advantage when Moldova midfielder Alexandru Grosu was dismissed with seven minutes to go after collecting two bookings in quick succession, but it was not to be, with Rókur Jacobsen's long-range effort pushed on to the crossbar by Chirinciuc. Moldova visit Romania for their next game on Tuesday with the Faroes hosting Latvia a day later.
