Ched Evans continued his remarkable scoring run for Wales with a pair of goals in a 4-1 rout of Hungary to take his tally to eleven in just ten Under-21 appearances.
Wales top
Evans, on loan at Sheffield United FC from Manchester City FC, scored twice in the first half after Shaun MacDonald and Zsolt Korcsmár had swapped early goals at the Racecourse Ground in Wrexham. Andy King hit the fourth in the first minute of added time as Wales moved past Hungary to the top of Group 3 in qualifying for the 2011 UEFA European U21 Championship. They now have seven points from three games, one more than Hungary ahead of their date with section favourites Italy, who begin their campaign at the Liberty Stadium in Swansea on 4 September.
Evans double
New Wales captain MacDonald headed the opener in the 16th minute, but Hungary were quickly back on level terms, Korcsmár knocking the ball in from a corner two minutes later. Evans, who has ten senior caps, restored Wales's lead on 36 minutes before adding his second with a powerful strike four minutes before half-time. King completed the victory late on with a shot from the edge of the area.
