Germany 1-3 Turkey
Rainer Adrion began his reign as coach of UEFA European Under-21 Championship holders Germany with a loss to Turkey at the four-team Lobanovskiy Cup in Ukraine.

Schindler strike
Tevfik Köse's first-half effort was added to soon after the break by Aydin Yılmaz, with namesake Deniz adding a third 17 minutes from time. Kevin Schindler reduced the arrears seconds later for a new-look Germany side featuring five debutants.

New players
Philipp Bargfrede, Sebastian Langkamp, Thomas Müller, Nils Petersen and Lars Stindl were all handed their first taste of life at U21 level and it was Germany who started the brighter, Änis Ben-Hatira threatening with a free-kick. However, new captain Mats Hummels then fouled Aydin in the penalty area and Tevfik kept his composure from the spot after 17 minutes.

Consolation
A spell of Germany pressure followed thereafter but Turkey doubled their lead two minutes after the interval when Aydin eased past his marker on the right and finished from close range. Any hope Adrion had of salvaging a result disappeared with Deniz's strike, before Schindler's deflected free-kick 60 seconds later finally gave Germany something to cheer.

Displeasure
Adrion, whose side play Iran on Wednesday, said: "Of course I pictured my debut differently. In the first half we tried to achieve something without putting in the effort – this does not work. The avoidable penalty was a blow and we were lacking organisation. I am not happy with the first half. It got a little better with the substitutions after the break, but we were lacking punch. We have lots of work to do."
