Netherlands 0-0 England
The Netherlands and England were forced to settle for a goalless draw in a friendly at FC Groningen's Euroborg Stadium.

Successive titles
The Jong Oranje, European champions in 2006 and 2007, were eager to reaffirm their credentials after missing on qualification for this summer's tournament in Sweden and it was Cor Pot's team who fashioned the first chance. Arsenal FC's Nacer Barazite fired in a 20-metre drive which just cleared the crossbar, while at the other end England captain Micah Richards was thwarted by Tim Krul as the first half drew to a close.

New faces
England coach Stuart Pearce fielded eight of the squad that had contributed to their run to the final of the 2009 UEFA European Under-21 Championship, which they lost 4-0 to Germany, but also used the opportunity to give a number of new faces a chance. West Ham United FC midfielder Junior Stanislas made his U21 debut and there were also first caps for Freddie Sears, Daniel Sturridge, Chris Smalling, Jack Wilshere and Andy Carroll who all came on after the interval.

Woodwork struck
The home side had the best of the chances in the second half with Middlesbrough FC striker Marvin Emnes heading wide for the Jong Oranje before Barazite's long-range effort was beaten out by Scott Loach. Substitute Vurnon Anita then rattled the crossbar in the final minute with a shot from the edge of the penalty area as the two sides were forced to settle for a draw.
