Former Portugal midfielder Oceano will take the reins of his country's Under-21 side next season as part of a shake-up in the coaching staff of the nation's youth teams.
Reshuffle
The 46-year-old replaces Rui Caçador, who has been appointed Portugal's new technical co-ordinator. Oceano played for Sporting Clube de Portugal, Real Sociedad de Fútbol and Toulouse FC during a career in which he also scored eight goals in 54 internationals, and was part of Carlos Queiroz's staff at senior level although has no experience as a head coach. Further changes by the Portuguese Football Federation include former striker Paulo Alves, 39, taking the helm of the U20 team, and ex-Vitória FC midfielder Hélio Sousa being installed as the new U18 coach. Another fresh face, the 37-year-old Rui Bento, has been given the task of leading the U17s while Ilídio Vale continues in his role with the U19s.
