Poland got their bid to qualify for the 2011 UEFA European Under-21 Championship off to a winning start by defeating Liechtenstein 2-0 in Pruszkow.

Tricky conditions
A goal in each half from Maciej Korzym and Maciej Rybus gave the hosts an opening victory in Group 4 as Poland had to overcome tricky conditions with heavy rain making life difficult for the players. The home team were on top from the beginning and spurned an excellent opportunity ten minutes in when Kamil Grosicki shot wide. Grzegorz Krychowiak then went close twice, but it was not until the 35th minute that Poland made the breakthrough when Mateusz Cetnarski found Korzym who applied a neat finish. Eleven minutes after half-time it was two as Rybus fired in after being well found by Patryk Małecki.
