The hosts made a fine start to their 2011 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying campaign with Kostas Mitroglou on target twice in Tripolis.
Powerful strike
The Olympiacos CFP striker opened the scoring for Nikos Nioplias's side with a powerful left-footed strike after just seven minutes, and he struck again early in the second half after goalkeeper Kristijan Naumovski had saved his initial header. F.Y.R. Macedonia showed their ability a minute later when Samir Fazli registered with a fine right-footed shot from the edge of the box, but Georgios Ioannidis finished from substitute Elini Dimoutsos's cross on the hour to settle the match. Greece visit Lithuania in their next Group 9 game on 6 June while F.Y.R. Macedonia are not in competitive action again until 4 September, when they host England.
