Group 7 winners Austria needed an Aron Einar Gunnarsson own goal to overcome Iceland in Schwaz and earn their fourth successive victory ahead of October's play-offs.

Early own-goal
Gunnarsson's mishap on six minutes ensured that Austria ended their eight-game campaign unbeaten, amassing 20 points to comfortably top the section. The home side were rewarded for their bright start when Veli Kavlak curled a corner kick into the Iceland penalty area where Gunnarsson turned Franz Schiemers' attempted shot into his own net. After the break, Gylfi Thor Sigurdsson and Arnor Smarason were both thwarted in their attempts to equalise by Austria goalkeeper Robert Olejnik. Hallgrímur Jónasson then rattled the crossbar with a 20-metre shot with five minutes to go, while the points were preserved in added time when substitute Mario Reiter cleared a final Iceland chance off the goalline.
