Scotland increased the pressure on leaders Finland at the summit of UEFA European Under-21 Championship Group 6 by comfortably defeating Lithuania in Marijampole.
Early breakthrough
Lithuania, who have now finished their campaign, were behind after five minutes when Scott Arfield headed in the rebound after the ball had struck the crossbar. The hosts responded by delivering a series of dangerous set-pieces without reward, and Scotland doubled their lead six minutes before half-time through Ross McCormack's precise shot from inside the penalty area.
Contrasting fortunes
Scotland assured themselves of three points 15 minutes after the restart when Kevin McDonald capitalised on a mistake by goalkeeper Giedrius Arlauskis. The visitors were not satisfied but their subsequent efforts were resisted by a Lithuania side who resorted to defending in numbers. Billy Stark's Scotland moved into second place, trailing Finland by two points with two games remaining; Lithuania signed off with one point from eight matches.
