Perfect return
The Oranje started the evening with maximum points from five outings in Group 5 against opponents who needed a victory to keep alive their hopes of sealing the runners-up spot in the section. Foppe de Haan's side lacked their usual zest, however, and beside a couple of half-chances for Jonathan De Guzman did little to trouble the determined visitors.
Fine winner
Switzerland, weakened by the absence of Eren Derdiyok and Johan Djourou as they prepare for UEFA EURO 2008™ duty, struck the only goal three minutes after the break when left-back Lustenberger began a super solo run in his own half which ended with him jinking past three defenders and slotting in the winner. It was the first goal the Dutch had conceded in this campaign.
Late chances
Switzerland goalkeeper David Gonzalez subsequently denied Marvin Emnes and Siem de Jong, yet it was Pierre-André Schürmann's side who looked more likely to add to their tally as Reto Ziegler and Stephan Andrist both spurned decent late chances. While the Netherlands remain on course to win the section, Switzerland join Norway - their next opponents on 20 August - on ten points in second place.
