Serbia climbed to within two points of Group 8 leaders Belarus with a comprehensive victory against San Marino at the Stadio Olimpico in Serravalle.
Djordjević double
The 2007 UEFA European Under-21 Championship finalists scored three times in 15 minutes to put the result beyond doubt with less than half an hour played. Filip Djordjević struck first on 13 minutes before two quick goals from Nikola Petković on 27 minutes and Gojko Kačar 60 seconds after that put Serbia in command. Stefan Babović extended their lead five minutes into the second half before Djordjević rounded out the scoring three minutes into added time.
Play-off chance
It was Serbia's fourth win of the campaign and keeps them in with a chance of qualifying for the play-offs for the 2009 UEFA European Under-21 Championship in Sweden should they win their final match at home to Hungary on 6 September and Belarus slip up four days later in Latvia. San Marino are yet to pick up a point and have scored just once in their six qualifiers so far.
