Article body
Tim Sparv's early goal earned Finland a fourth straight win against Lithuania to open up a five-point gap atop UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying Group 6.
Contrasting fortunes
The sides went into the game at opposite ends of the table but Sparv's fourth-minute strike turned out to be the only difference on the night. The Halmstads BK striker, who also scored the only goal of the game against Slovenia on Saturday, made the most of some poor marking by the Lithuanian defence to score what proved to be the winning goal. Lithuania had chances to level after half-time but Marius Činikas spurned their best opportunity by shooting straight at the goalkeeper. Finland now have a maximum 12 points, five clear of second-placed Denmark ahead of their home game against Lithuania on 21 November. The visitors, who have a solitary point from five outings, meet Denmark five days prior to that rematch.
