Article body
Maringlen Shoshi snatched a point for ten-man Albania, cancelling out a header from Vugar Nadyrov to give his side a share of the points against Azerbaijan.
Two headers
The hosts had the perfect chance to take an early lead at the Ismet Qaibov Stadium as a foul by Shoshi gave them a ninth-minute penalty but Rahid Amirguliyev's effort was well saved. Elis Bakaj was then sent off for a second bookable offence, giving Azerbaijan a man advantage. Nadyrov hit the bar for the home side while at the other end Xheyahir Sukaj failed to connect with a low cross. Nadyrov finally broke the deadlock with a 74th-minute header but Shoshi nodded in Albania's response seven minutes later, and while both sides had chances to win, good goalkeeping denied them. The result gave Azerbaijan their first Group 1 point but they are still bottom, six behind fourth-placed Albania.
