Article body
Despite a spirited display, home side Liechtenstein went down 4-0 to the Czech Republic in their 2009 UEFA European Under-21 Championship Group 2 qualifier.
Golden opportunity
Liechtenstein had a golden opportunity to open the scoring, but Philippe Erne had his penalty saved after 27 minutes. The away side then soon took the lead through Ondrej Mazuch’s 20-metre shot and Borek Dockal made it 2-0 before half-time. A close-range effort from Michal Smejkal on 67 minutes was followed by a Tomáš Pekhart spot-kick to round off the scoring. The hosts remain bottom of the table with no points from four matches while the Czechs move into second place in the section, two points behind a Turkey team who have won all three of their qualifiers.
