Article body
Two goals on the stroke of half-time gave Scotland a platform for their first victory in 2009 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying Group 6 as they ran out comfortable 3-0 winners over Lithuania at Easter Road.
Strong start
The home side started strongly and goalkeeper Giedrius Arlauskis made a series of excellent saves to keep Lithuania in contention. However, just as it looked like the visitors were going to weather the storm, Scotland broke the deadlock a minute before the interval when Ross McCormack slotted home Steven Fletcher’s cutback. Seconds later McCormack turned provider for Charlie Mulgrew who sent the Scots in two ahead at the break. Substitute Elvades Grigaitis almost halved the deficit six minutes after the restart with a long-range effort that hit the crossbar only for Fletcher to put the result beyond doubt moments later when he applied the finishing touch to an impressive passing move.
