Serbia set new goals

Serbia will compete at the Valeriy Lobanovsky tournament in Ukraine this week looking to build on a successful UEFA European Under-21 Championship in June.

Preparation
Serbia reached the final under Miroslav Djukić in the Netherlands and much will be expected again when they resume their qualifying campaign for the 2009 UEFA European Championship at home to Belarus next month. Serbia drew their opening game 1-1 at home to Latvia in June and new coach Slobodan Krčmarević will be hoping the friendly tournament against Ukraine, Israel and Moldova will serve as useful preparation for the challenges ahead.

'Great test'
"We're still at the start of a new generation and I must find the right place for so many things," he said. "This tournament will be a great test for us and a chance to see both our strengths and our weaknesses. Of course we will be preparing our team for the upcoming qualifying matches, that is the most important thing for us."

Smiljanić absent
Krčmarević has named a strong squad for the tournament, which Serbia will kick off against Moldova. The only absentee is his captain, RCD Espanyol midfielder Milan Smiljanić, who has been called up to the full national squad for the UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifier against Belgium.
