Serbia could afford to miss two penalties and still comfortably defeat Lithuania in Novi Sad to win Group 3 with maximum points.
Janković opener
Semi-finalists as Serbia and Montenegro in the 2006 UEFA European Under-21 Championship in Portugal, the Serbians are now into the play-offs for the 2007 edition in the Netherlands. Boško Janković opened the scoring in the 29th minute, and Dejan Milovanović missed a glorious chance to double the lead five minutes before the break from the spot after Dragan Mrda was felled.
Keeper dismissed
The visiting goalkeeper Ernestas Setkus was sent off in the 53rd minute for bringing down Mrda again, and the resulting penalty taken by Miloš Krasić also went begging. Milan Smiljanić was not so profligate in the 64th minute, scoring a deserved second goal for a team who no one will want to draw in Nyon on Friday.
