Serritslev takes positives from draw

The coaches of Denmark and the Netherlands were both looking forward to Monday's decisive concluding matches in Group B following their 1-1 draw in Aveiro. Klaas Jan Huntelaar opened the scoring for the Dutch in the 38th minute, with Thomas Kahlenberg replying three minutes into the second half for a Denmark team whose chances of reaching the semi-finals rest on their next match against Ukraine. The same applies to the Netherlands, who must get the better of the holders Italy in three days' time.

It was a really tough match, especially because we played an even tougher match 44 hours ago which is very hard on the players. We controlled the majority of the match, and were especially the better team in the second half when we proved we can play some decent football. Our destiny in this tournament remains in our own hands and its up to us to take that chance. However, the Ukraine team we will meet next are a much better team than the one we played twice in qualifying.

The circumstances, playing two games in three days, makes it very hard for the players. We had problems in the opening 20 minutes because of that but then found our feet. We were OK in central midfield and attack but we didn't have any action on the wings - the one time we did we scored. The positional play on the wings was also not good enough so that meant we couldn't put any pressure on Denmark but we were much better than against Ukraine. I said at half-time they will only have chances from set-pieces and we defended those well - they didn't create any chances from them after scoring three goals like that against Italy. I tried changing the system with some substitutions in the second half but they didn't influence the game. This was a game we needed to win and our performance wasn't good enough. The players showed the right spirit and there are lots of good things to build on.

I don't think I played my best match today. It's difficult because none of us are 100 per cent. In the second half we showed good technical skills, looked better physically and kept the ball well. It's been a good start for me, scoring two goals in two games, and hopefully that will continue.

For the Danish goal we agreed to play offside but we didn't do it as one and conceded in a similar way to how we had against Ukraine which was disappointing. When you're leading at half-time you're obviously hoping to get the win and as we didn't things are out of our hands.
