Italy leave Serritslev blue

Denmark coach Flemming Serritslev said his side's 3-3 draw against Italy "felt like a defeat" after the holders battled back from 3-1 down to claim a point in their opening Group B game. Alessandro Potenza had given Italy an early lead, but first-half goals from Rasmus Würtz, Thomas Kahlenberg and Leon Andreasen looked to have given Denmark the points until a spirited second-half comeback from Italy. Raffaele Palladino headed Claudio Gentile's side back into the game on 61 minutes before substitute Rolando Bianchi earned them a point in added time.

Obviously we feel like we have lost even though going into the match the priority was to get a point. Having got so close to winning though it feels like a defeat. Now we must think ahead to the next game which comes very soon in only 48 hours against the Netherlands. It was a great performance from my team, particularly when you look at our opponents tonight. But we are not happy with our defending. We made mistakes and they scored three goals against us so we have some work to do.

After we took the lead in the first half we stopped playing. The players were pretty depressed in the dressing room at half-time, their heads were down but after talking they were all united in wanting to put it right. We came out for the second half and showed our anger as well as showing that we can play decent football too. I’m obviously happy with that as it also gives us confidence to take into the two remaining group games. We actually created enough chances to have won the match but in the end I think the result is a fair one.
