Ankle sprain
As well as having defender Semedo suspended following his red card in the 2-0 defeat by Serbia and Montenegro last night, coach Agostinho Oliveira is set to be without goalkeeper Bruno Vale. He has an ankle sprain although hospital scans have revealed no fracture. Forwards Hugo Almeida and Ricardo Vaz Té have thigh and knee problems, with the former on crutches and almost certain not to play while the latter is expected to feature. Portugal must win by three goals and hope that leaders France beat Serbia and Montenegro in the other Group A match to qualify for the semi-finals.
