Second goal
The Hertha BSC Berlin forward claimed his second goal in two play-off games against the Czech Republic midway through the second half when he reacted quicker than the Czech defence and hit the target from close range after Tomáš Grigar had failed to hold on to Matthias Lehmann's shot.
Sverkoš miss
Both teams were evenly matched early on with the home side desperately trying to avoid coming under the same pressure as they did in the previous encounter, but just as in Friday's first leg, the Czechs had the first chance. A mistake in the Germany defence allowed Václav Sverkoš to break through with only Michael Rensing to beat but the VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach striker chipped wide. Shortly afterwards another blunder in the German back four gave Martin Klein an opportunity but he blasted over the bar.
Trochowski threat
Germany needed 20 minutes to really get going with Piotr Trochowski in the thick of things as his shot from inside the area was deflected wide. The Hamburger SV midfielder curled the resulting corner into the area but Rafael saw his header blocked by Martin Knakal.
Sverkos lacks coolness
Despite the hosts now enjoying more possession the Czechs continued to look dangerous. Ten minutes from half-time Filip Trojan's perfectly-timed pass fell for Sverkoš but once again the forward failed to keep his cool and was denied by Rensing.
Rafael strike
The visitors were unable to show the same edge after the break and Germany took charge with Stefan Kiessling, Mike Hanke and Marvin Matip all going close before Rafael broke the deadlock midway through the half. Grigar could only parry Lehmann's effort and the Hertha frontman made no mistake to secure Germany's place at next summer's showpiece.
