England strengthen for French test

Charlton Athletic FC's Darren Bent and Manchester United FC's Kieran Richardson have been called up by England Under-21s to play France.

Tottenham trio
Bent, who has scored seven Premiership goals this season, and Richardson, a regular in the 2005/06 UEFA Champions League, had both been involved in the senior squad since the summer. Tottenham Hotspur FC trio Aaron Lennon, Michael Dawson and Tom Huddlestone, the latter on loan at Wolverhampton Wanderers FC, will look to make an impact on home ground with the first leg at White Hart Lane a week today.

'Tough challenge'
England manager Peter Taylor said: "I'm delighted to have Darren and Kieran back in the squad. Both of them played an important part in getting us to the play-offs and players of their quality will certainly add to the squad. We know France will be a tough challenge for us. They always produce outstanding young players." The return match will be played at the Stade Marcel-Picot in Nancy on Tuesday 15 November.
