KRC Genk striker Kevin Vandenbergh struck a hat-trick as Belgium stunned UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying Group 7 leaders Serbia and Montenegro in Lokeren.
Vandenbergh treble
The visitors, beaten finalists in the 2002/04 edition, had won their first three fixtures but fell behind on eight minutes when the son of legendary Belgian striker Erwin Vandenbergh pounced on a back-pass from Milan Biševac. Ten minutes into the second half the same player doubled the lead, and having set up substitute Benjamin De Ceulaern for the third, Vandenbergh completed his treble six minutes from time.
Two-point gap
Serbia and Montenegro, who return to action on 29 March when Spain are their visitors, retain the lead, but unbeaten Belgium are up to second and only two points behind with a game in hand. Belgium will go top on 25 March if they win their next fixture at home to Bosnia-Herzegovina, four days before visiting San Marino.
