Finalists wait on Frankfurt draw

Eight teams are in the hat for the 2002/04 UEFA European Under-21 Championship draw on Wednesday.

Völler to conduct draw
Germany national team coach Rudi Völler together with Lars-Ake Lagrell, chairman of UEFA's national teams committee, will conduct the draw for the final round of the tournament between 27 May and 8 June. The draw ceremony, held at the Hotel Intercontinental, begins at 12.00CET and will last approximately 15 minutes.

Seedings
Italy, as the team with the highest coefficient from the qualifying tournament, and Germany, as hosts, have already been placed in Groups A and B respectively. Serbia and Montenegro and Switzerland are seeded two and three and will each be drawn from Pot 1 into one of the two groups. The remaining four teams - Belarus, Portugal, Croatia and Sweden - will be drawn from Pot 2.

Italy have pedigree
Neither of the two finalists from 2002, Czech Republic and France, have reached this year's finals. Italy have arguably the strongest pedigree of the eight finalists having won four of the last six editions.
