Two first-half goals by striker Emiliano Bonazzoli set up a 5-2 away win for Italy in Poland in an all-action UEFA European Under-21 Championship play-off first leg.
Frenetic finish
Parma AC striker Bonazzoli gave the Italians a flying start with a goal after just three minutes but they had to endure a frenetic finish before Udinese Calcio's Vicenzo Iaguinta added the gloss with a last-minute effort.
Late goals
Bonazzoli put the Italians two up seven minutes before the break and Parma defender Matteo Ferrari hit a third in the last minute of the period. Claudio Gentile's team went even further ahead with 12 minutes to go through Massimo Maccarone, but a couple of late goals pegged them back.
Back in balance
Defender Mariusz Lewandowski nicked a strike with four minutes remaining on the clock. And when Damian Gorwaski hit a second two minutes later, the tie seemed to be back in the balance. But Udinese forward Iaquinta stole the fifth to give the Italians a solid base for the return encounter.
