Francois Affolter scored the only goal as Switzerland condemned Soso Chedia to defeat in his first match as Georgia coach.
The BSC Young Boys defender's header, from Pajtim Kasami's 56th-minute corner, ensured the visitors continued their strong start to qualifying Group 5. Switzerland, who have seven points from three games and sit second behind holders Spain, struck the woodwork after 28 minutes through Sebastien Wuthrich, before Kasami had a shot blocked by Mamuka Kobakhidze.
Georgia's best opportunity fell to Irakli Shekiladze early in the second half but the Empoli FC forward was unable to keep his shot down with just Roman Bürki to beat.
