Hungary assume second spot

Late strikes from Krisztián Németh and András Gosztonyi earned Hungary a victory against Bosnia and Herzegovina which lifts Antal Roth's team to within a point of UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying Group 3 leaders Wales.

Hungary were thankful to goalkeeper Péter Gulácsi for keeping them on level terms during a first half which the hosts dominated, then broke the deadlock 11 minutes from time when Németh capitalised on hesitancy in the Bosnian defence. Gosztonyi made sure of a victory three minutes later which takes Hungary above Italy into second place and within reach of a Wales team they host in their next fixture on 4 September.

The outcome could have been much different, however, had Bosnia and Herzegovina taken any of their first-half chances, the first of which fell to Anes Haurdić, who shot wide from just inside the area. Gulácsi came to Hungary's rescue twice in four minutes before the break, keeping out Nemanja Bilbija's free-kick before brilliantly denying Haurdić again in added time.

Németh made them pay on 79 minutes and before they had regained their composure Bosnia and Herzegovina found themselves two behind when Gosztonyi's close-range shot crept under Ibrahim Šehić's arm. Bosnia and Herzegovina, three points shy of Italy in fourth, host the Azzurrini next on 3 September before finishing their campaign four days later in Hungary.
