Stuivenberg to succeed Pot as Jong Oranje boss

Albert Stuivenberg will succeed Cor Pot as Netherlands Under-21 coach after this summer's UEFA European Under-21 Championship in Israel.

The 42-year-old has signed a contract running until the conclusion of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and will look to replicate his success with the U17 team. Under Stuivenberg, the Netherlands won back-to-back UEFA European Under-17 Championships though they failed – as double title holders – to qualify for this month's final tournament in Slovakia.

"I have had a beautiful period with the U17s," he said. "With the step up to the Jong Oranje I will get the chance to expand my knowledge and experience. The focus after the summer will firstly be to qualify for the [2015] European Championship in the Czech Republic. A nice challenge, and we must seal a place on the road to the Rio Olympics [by reaching the semi-finals]."

Stuivenberg made 11 appearances for the Netherlands at youth level and was on Feyenoord's books before a torn cruciate ligament forced him to retire while still in his teens. He became a youth coach at Feyenoord, working there for 13 years before taking a similar role at RWD Molenbeek. In 2004 he moved to Abu Dhabi club al-Jazira, running their youth system, before returning home at the start of 2006/07 to replace Ruud Kaiser as Netherlands U17 coach.
