Holders Germany will defend their UEFA European Under-19 Championship title in Greece this summer after a 6-0 win against the Czech Republic clinched first place in elite round Group 2.
Going into the final set of games, Germany trailed Slovakia on goal difference with the Czechs a point adrift. However, although Slovakia did go two up on the Republic of Ireland, they were pegged back to 2-2 and Germany cruised to victory with two goals and an assist from Leroy Sané, whose pace and technique proved too much for the Czech Republic.
Group hosts Germany had been held 1-1 by Slovakia in their opening game after conceding a late goal but two days later scored twice in the last eight minutes to defeat Ireland 3-2. Slovakia had beaten the Czech Republic 3-0 but ended up down to ten men in their draw with Ireland.
Germany coach Marcus Sorg, who now awaits the 9 June draw, said: "I am really very proud of my team. Preparations were not so easy, but the team worked very well during the tournament. We have great ability and we want to show this now in Greece in the European finals."
