Turkey will reach the UEFA European Under-19 Championship finals with victory against Germany on Sunday after defeating Hungary 6-1.
The Group 7 hosts opened their elite round campaign with a 3-1 win against the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia on Tuesday and now head into their final fixture level on six points with section leaders Germany. Turkey, however, are still one behind on goal difference and must win to reach next month's finals in Romania.
Scorer of a hat-trick against FYROM, Muhammet Demir took just two minutes to open the scoring in Antalya, pouncing on the loose ball after a Engin Bekdemir free-kick. He also played his part in Turkey's second, laying on Ali Dere to finish just four minutes later.
The score was 3-0 just before half-time when Ömer Şahiner turned in Okan Alkan's cross. In first-half added time things went from bad to worse for Hungary, Csaba Ponczók shown a straight red card. Any hopes of a revival instigated by Roland Ugrai's strike a minute after the interval were soon dashed when László Szepessy's team were reduced to nine men via István Kovács's dismissal.
Muhammet added a fourth with 14 minutes left and after Hungary were reduced to eight men when captain Martin Izing was sent off, Turkey capitalised with late goals for Ömer Şahiner and Engin Bekdemir.
