Spain have six points out of six in UEFA European Under-19 Championship elite round Group 2 after a 3-0 win against Montenegro in Lausanne.
Julen Lopetegui's side opened their campaign with a 2-1 win against hosts Switzerland on Tuesday and picked up from where they left off on Thursday, dominating throughout against Montenegro and triumphing thanks to two goals from Juanmi and a third from substitute Álvaro Morata. A draw against England on Sunday in Nyon would take Spain to the finals.
Indeed, it could have been more for Spain and Juanmi, who nearly gave his team the lead inside ten minutes before being felled for a penalty just after the midway point in the first half. Though Isco, impressive throughout, failed to convert from the spot, Montenegro never managed to establish a foothold in the match thereafter.
Despite their supremacy, however, Spain had to wait until seven minutes into the second half to break the deadlock, Juanmi firing past Montenegro keeper Damir Ljuljanović after being neatly teed up by Isco. That goal sparked both Spain and their scorer into life, Juanmi doubling his tally just after the hour when he applied an easy finish after pouncing on the rebound from Rubén Pardo's shot. The highlight of the game, though, came 15 minutes from time when Morata met captain Marc Muniesa's cross on the volley to put the result beyond doubt.
