Eriс Durm came off the bench to score twice as Germany made a promising start to UEFA European Under-19 Championship elite round Group 7 in Turkey.
Christian Ziege's side were ahead on 16 minutes though Moritz Leitner and a team boasting several of the 2009 European U17 Championship-winning squad continued to dominate. That pressure was made to tell within two minutes of Durm's introduction and not long after his second Hungary were reduced to ten men.
Leitner broke the deadlock when he connected with Shawn Parker's cross and Germany nearly made it two when 2009 U17 veteran Matthias Zimmermann hit the crossbar. Parker had a shot cleared off the line just before the break following a clever feint.
Durm replaced Parker on 55 minutes and was soon on the scoresheet as he was sent clear and calmly chipped over Hungary goalkeeper Róbert Ambrusics. Ten minutes later Durm's ball from the left went in despite a desperate effort to clear and Hungary then had Roland Szolnoki dismissed for delaying a restart to earn a second yellow card. Germany continue on Thursday against the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, who today lost 3-1 to Hungary's next opposition, Turkey.
