René Sterckx y Calle struck the winner two minutes into added time as Belgium registered their first points in UEFA European Under-19 Championship elite round Group 1.
Having struck the crossbar in the first half through James Forrest, Scotland fell behind with 21 minutes remaining when substitute Ziguy Badibanga turned in from close range. Bradden Inman's 87th-minute equaliser looked to have earned Billy Stark's team a point but Sterckx y Calle had other ideas, converting a cross from another replacement, Jason Bourdouxhe. Belgium, who lost on Matchday 1, are in second place, three points behind mini-tournament hosts Croatia.
Forrest had already tried his luck early on before his quickly-taken effort rattled the crossbar. Scotland ended the half with Robert McHugh's chip clearing Koen Casteels' goal, though after the break it was Belgium who began to take control, Lukas Van Eenoo and Gianni Bruno both going close in quick succession. Forrest then did likewise at the other end before Badibanga was in the right place to turn in a free-kick which had deflected into his path. Inman restored parity with a close-range finish but Sterckx y Calle ensured Belgium would not be denied.
March Van Geersom, the Belgium coach, said: "It was our last hope after we lost the first match against Croatia. We took the opportunity with both hands. We were better team and we deserved the victory."
